The Bourne Ultimatum

Friends, if you haven't seen The Bourne Ultimatum yet, I highly encourage you to take a night out and see it. Absolutely entertaining and wonderful. I would encourage you, though, to watch #1 and #2 if you haven't seen them yet, or you will be very confused. I give it a 5 star rating.

Hope you all had a great weekend! More of mine to come later, just had to give a quick shout-out!

An Unexpected Interruption

This week has been one filled with many adventures with my precious Jr. High and High Schoolers. I only have a week left with them so I am soaking it all up!

Last night was our annual Astros game night. Always a blast and filled with LOTS of laughter and memories. Last night was probably my all time favorite game not only because WE WON, but because of the people.

We got to the game and sat in our wonderful seats about an hour before the game started. All was well in Astro land until one man came and sat in front of us. This wouldn't be a problem, but he wasn't very nice to us upon his arrival when someone was sitting in his seat. After asking us what seats we had, we told him we were just chatting and politely moved out of his seat so he could sit down. Alrighty, we're good now!

Oh, but wait, we weren't out of the blue yet. About 30 minutes after the game started he turned around to Dana and asked if she was with the group. "Yes!" she told him. He then proceeded to tell her, in a not so sweet voice, that we were way to loud and needed to be quiet because he was trying to hear the game. Ummmmm....okay.

I am so sorry, sir, but if I am thinking straight, I recall us being at a BASEBALL GAME, not the Opera. You can't hear anything those guys say anyway, it's all mumbly and we're here to WATCH the game, not really LISTEN to it.

Y'all, I'm not gonna lie, it was so hard to keep the mouth shut and be Christ-like. I really wanted to tell him what I just wrote. Especially after he kept giving us dirty looks...no joke. His wife and 2 kids were with him and if I were them, I would have been embarrassed. Once again, we're at a Baseball game. Nothing is quiet.

To be honest, we didn't quiet down. We screamed when Biggio made another hit. We screamed when we made 4 home runs. We proudly did the wave, the claps and every song you can imagine. We danced, we laughed, and made memories. Nothing was stopping us from having fun. I've never heard of anyone wanting "quiet" at a game...they don't go hand in hand.

They left the game about 2 hours after it started. We then took their seats, had fun, and screamed even louder. It was a blast.

The last thing that put me over the edge with fun was the engagement. Now, here me now, I would NEVER want to get engaged at a game. It's not my thing, but it happens here quite a bit. Before the game started I told Dana that if someone got engaged while I was at the game, I might wet myself. Low and behold...someone got engaged. Surprise?! Ummm...no. It happened. And I laughed real hard. I so called it. Thank you very much!

All in all it was a great night! And, the Astros beat the Cubs 3 games in a row. I love my 'stros!

Dana and I laughing...a very common occurance. (And Kevyn being candid!)

Waiting for the game to start....

The not-so-very-nice man, and his sleeping daughter.

Not only was he not very nice, he took up my leg room with his arm. For 2 hours.

SHHHHHHHH..........

David...being David.

Some cute girls...

Good times!

The guy who proposed. (Sorry for the wierd pictures...my camera was so delayed. I tried to get it, though!)

Using fun tools on my camera!

I Was Tagged

I take that back, I was tagged awhile ago, but never got around to it. I figured right before my lunch break today would be an appropriate time to do so. So, here goes nothin'!

5 things I want to do before I die:

1) Go on a date :)
2) Get engaged!
3) Be a good Wife!
4) Be a good Mother!
5) And travel to a very pretty beach for vacation. (Anything besides Galveston or Florida!)

(All of which have to start with #1!)

5 things I can do:

1) Sing!
2) Play the piano.
3) Talk "deaf!" (Very sad...I know!)
4) Laugh hard.
5) Scream really loud...especially in games and roller coasters.
6) Act like Sharpay ;) At least I tried too... (I had to put in on there!)

5 things I cannot do:

1) Math.
2) Delegate...I am a perfectionist, so I like to do things my way. (It's bad!)
3) Talk with ANY kind of accent. Especially British.
4) Dance in any kind of way. I pretty much have 2 moves. It's sad. I wish I could dance.
5) Go to bed with out washing my face. VERY OCD about that. Even if I've already fallen asleep and it's 2 a.m., I will wash the face!

5 things that make a man attractive to me:

1) Stronger in their faith then me, so they can lead me and my family!
2) A good smile :)
3) Outgoing.
4) Encouraging to me and others!
5) TALL! :)

(And SO many more! I'm just a Lady in Waiting!!)

5 celebrities I crush on:

1) Michael Vartan (Can I get an ALIAS shout-out!)
2) Matthew McConaughey (How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days...favorite!)
3) Ryan Gosling (I mean, have you seen The Notebook?! Or, the MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss?!)
4) Matt Damon (Especially in all Bourne movies...)
5) George Clooney (Back in the ER days!)

There you have it, folks! Now it's YOUR turn Joanna , Sally, Raven , Laura , and Jen!

Memories

Since last OCTOBER I have been re-doing/decorating my room at home. You know, I am wanting to make it a "big girl" room, since in 6 months I will be living at home for student teaching and saving money. It has been a long time coming, but it is SLOWLY coming together.

Today I was cleaning more out (a.k.a. getting rid of things) when I ran across a bag of old notes/cards from previous years. Yes, I admit, I am a pack rat when it comes to these things. I love to look back and read what people wrote, it is so intriguing and not to mention encouraging. So, that's exactly what I did. I read every card. Oh boy.

First of all, I want you all to know the amazing friends I have. Jennifer, Joanna, and Sally are truly a gift from God. They are THE BEST FRIENDS a girl could ever ask for. They way they encourage me, laugh with me (or at me), listen to me, talk with me, and care about me are more than I could have ever asked for. The Lord knew what he was doing when he specifically placed each of these sweet ones in my life. I am beyond blessed and more than grateful for each of these girls. It was so neat to read through my cards (all of which were from them!) and just see the love of God pour out of them. I was so encouraged.

Aside from that I have to tell you about a funny story about one of the cards I found. It was from Joanna on my 19th birthday, telling me she would "never miss this day!"

I know you're probably thinking, okay, but what does that mean? Well, my 19th birthday was just funny now that I look back.

That summer (since my birthday is June 2nd it is clearly a summer birthday!) I worked for Sally's parents and of course, was working on my birthday. Although I wasn't thrilled to be working on my birthday, this was just a normal occurrence, so I went to work joyfully thinking I would have fun that night with my girls. You see, my dad was out of town that year for my birthday so my parents took me out to eat the night before, and I would eat with my girls the day of my birthday. I was totally fine with that. Jen was out of town also, so it was just gonna be Sally and Joanna. Once again, TOTALLY fine with that.

That day, Sally surprised me at work by window chalking my car and then brought me a cake! It was so fun. She then proceeded to tell me that she did that because she was going to have to babysit that night so she couldn't come to dinner. Sad. But, Jo was still good (at least I thought so) so all was well. The day went on and it was getting close to home time and I maybe thought they would let me leave early, since everyone else seemed to do that on their birthday! But no, I was wrong. They kept giving me little jobs to do and I started to get annoyed, I wanted to go home, it was my birthday. Finally, AFTER 5:00 they let me leave. Y'all, I normally left AT 5:00. Anyway, on my way out the door Jo called me to tell me that she was visiting someone in the hospital and then eating with her parents, so she couldn't eat with me. WHAT?!

I was kinda starting to get really frustrated, it's my birthday and NO ONE can do anything. My little brother than proceeded to call me to ask if I could pick up dinner for him somewhere on the way home because he was in a hurry and needed to leave right when I got home. Are you kidding me?! Not only can Jo or Sally eat with me, but now I am picking up food for my little brother who was leaving for the night, along with my mom who had Choir rehearsal that evening. Do y'all get what was happening? I was going to sit at home, by myself, for my birthday and wallow in my self-pity. It was an awful day at the least.

I pulled up to my house, bitter and frustrated with everyone, gave Kevyn his food (who met me at the car) and then went inside.

When I walked in I noticed the stairs were covered in Starbursts and I heard "Dancing Queen" loudly blaring from my room. I walked up the stairs, proceeded to my room to see it decorated from head to toe for my birthday, and then noticed the cake on my window seat with candles lit just going as if no one was worried the house could burn down. Finally, out popped 2 girls from my closet in which I then about wet myself from the surprise.

They were there, my girls were lying to me the whole time. Everything that happened that day was a ploy. Keeping me late at work, getting Kevyn food, all of it. Just a ploy for me to get home later so that they had enough time to decorate my room and surprise me, and what a surprise it was!

We did go to dinner and it was a great night. I was no longer frustrated or bitter, and no, I didn't wallow in self-pity that night.

I went home thinking I had the best friends in the whole entire world!

And I most certainly do!

Un-Productive

That's what I've been today...

VERY UN-PRODUCTIVE!

Yes, I've gotten the occasional email done, or paper copied, but other than that...today's been a pretty un-productive day.

I think the reason for that is I'd just plain rather be somewhere else than here. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my job. But, you all know there are those days you'd rather be at the pool laying out, shopping with somebody, or just being lazy laying around. I'd rather be doing one of those than be here.

Fridays at the office are always pretty slow because our church closes at noon on Fridays, so, while the rest of the church is gone doing things like that, we are here. And it's quiet. Very quiet. You would think that'd be a great day to get things done, but sometimes the quiet distracts me even more.

Right now I could be making an excel spread sheet, or making a few phone calls, but since I know it can all wait till Monday, I'm just having a problem getting started and it's almost 4:00. Almost time to go home, so why start now?! At least that's my thinking.

I will have you know, thought, that this past week has been VERY productive. Project Runway on Wednesday night was an absolute hit and blast. We had about 90 people show up. So many came we had to add a table! Praise the Lord. All the Jr. High girls and their mothers had a great time and our high school models were fabulous. They were everything we imagined and more!

Thursday I was with Claire all day running wedding errands. We went to The Woodlands where she got a new swim suit for her honeymoon (in the Bahamas) and a rehearsal dinner dress. It is adorable. And I can't forget to mention we had lunch at The Cheesecake Factory, delicious. After returning home from an all day trip, we had to run to Weddings by Debbie so she could drop off the bridesmaids dresses to get steamed. That was a trip in itself and we didn't get back to the house till around 8, where we then sat on my car and chatted till about 9 until the mosquitoes decided to join us.

Fun and productive day. Opposite of today.

So, that's when I like to say:

Thank Goodness It's Friday!! :)

What's Inside the Wrapper?

I am currently reading a book called Sexy Girls: How Hot is Too Hot? I know you may be thinking, what?! But, take it from me girls, it is just a book on modesty.

I picked it up at the beginning of summer at a grand $4.97 (I was so proud!) but didn't start reading it till about a week ago. And really, I started reading it because tomorrow night we are having Project Runway 2007 at our church for the girls, and I thought I would see what this book we were going to advertise had to say about modesty. Low and behold, it is wonderful.

Hayley DiMarco does a wonderful job of putting it bluntly. There is no holding back and I love it. Not only does she have scripture to back up EVERYTHING but she pulls in guys points of views, youth pastors points of views and some wonderful quotes. It's an easy read and I have enjoyed it yet learned so much at the same time. I think I am prepared for tomorrow. :)

One particular quote stood out to me, though which I am going to share.

"If most of us are ashamed of shabby clothes...let us be more ashamed of shabby ideas and shoddy philosophies...it would be a sad situation if the wrapper were better than the meat wrapped inside it." -Albert Einstein

Do you get it? If our "wrapper" or our "outward appearance" were better than the "meat" or the "heart" of who we are, how sad would that be? But, how true it is. More often than not I am more concerned with my outward appearance more than I am my heart, and it's issues. I would rather appear to "have it all together" than to really face the issues in my life. Because boy, that sure makes life easier, doesn't it? It's sad, but our culture has taught us that. Everything must me A-OK if we look good. And if we take it to the next level and compare ourselves to someone, and we look or dress better than them, well then by golly, we're livin' the high life. I know it sound harsh, but it's so true and something I need to work on. My heart should be the center of my worries. Not my outward appearance, as it so often is.

I want people to see my heart, it's desires and passions before they see me. I want them to notice something different about me, not cause I dress cute or my hair looks good that day, but because I love Jesus and want to serve him. I want the "meat" to far out weigh the "wrapper".

So I remind myself that "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7

And that my "adornment must not be merely external-braiding the hair and wearing gold jewelery or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." - 1 Pet. 3:3-4

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." - Proverbs 31:30

I needed a heart check!

Partying, Traveling, and Showering (Wedding Showering that is!)

You guessed it...

That's what I've been up to since Tuesday.

I traveled to Conroe on Tuesday evening to celebrate Hannah's 21st birthday. It was a fun night and I got to see a few of my phi lambs. They are always a joy to be around and it gets me excited for the fall. (Even though I'm bitter we start school on the 20th. A whole week before the rest of the world starts!)

I traveled up to Huntsville after that for a few days to relax and get some stuff done for school. I got my stuff done, layed out at the pool, saw "Licence to Wed", saw my sweet Macy, said goodbye to my precious Raven (who's moving to Dallas in a week) and Hannah (who was off to Africa for a month!) and then headed back to good ole' H-town. Houston, that is. It was very productive, yet very relaxing. I like to call it my mini-vacation since I have not taken one and am not taking one this summer.

Friday at work Jessica and I ran around ALL day to finish getting things ready for Project Runway this Wednesday. It was fun, yet exhausting simply because I will still getting over my cold. But, we got MUCH done and are so excited that this event is finally here. You'll hear all about it on Thursday, when it's over!! :)

Then Saturday we got to "shower" Claire with some special gifts for her wedding. We played some very fun games and she got some very "little thangs!" ;) It was a fun time.

My favorite part of my week, though, was my car rides. I have always loved driving to and from Huntsville. Some people may think I am crazy, but my car rides are always peaceful, times when it's "quiet", times when I can think, about anything. Times I can pray and hold a conversation with Jesus and have no one interrupt. But most of all, times when I can worship. And I love that. You better know that I bust my music as loud as it can go singing my heart out and raising my sweet little hands to the one I am falling in love with. (I do raise one hand, as it would be hazardous to raise both!). I guess this summer I haven't had a lot of that, a lot of alone time with HIM, simply because I'm not making time, and it's only my fault. I'm the one missing out. But this week I was just refreshed. It was me and Him, an hour there and an hour back. I loved it.

The one thing different about this car ride was the fact that I had no voice. Since I have been sick, I have been sounding a little like a smoker. It's just a precious sound! ;) So there was simply no hope in singing. The voice was gone and I am sure it was not a pleasing sound. So, I just listened to the words. Since I am a singer, just listening is harder for me, I love to sing. But, when you have no voice, you just can't sing. I think the Lord did this on purpose. He wanted me to listen, to be still, to be quiet. To just think about him and nothing else. It was so nice and it was literally like I was hearing him sing over me like he says he does. Oh, I can only imagine the voice he must have.

Next time you're in your car, bust up the music and worship your little heart out. Tell him all your fears, worries, joys, concerns, whatever it may be. It's such a sweet, quiet place. I love my car time with Jesus.
