Separation Anxiety

This week I have the pleasure of dog/house sitting for one of my all time favorite families, the Crocker's. All of their girls are away for the summer and the two of them decided to take a little vacation to NYC. It's not really the house they're worried about though, it's their dog, Lilly.

They wanted Lilly to have a visitor while they were gone instead of putting her somewhere. I totally understood so I agreed to watch the house/dog until Thursday when they get back. I was kind of excited because I have been missing my dog, Macy. She's actually not my dog, she's Kim's, which is my old roommate, but I miss her and her precious personality. Dogs do have personalities and that's what I am here to talk about.

You see, I had never had a dog until Kim got one. Everything about having a dog was new to me. In my opinion, it was like raising a child. I mean, the day Macy pooped 9 times inside, I could have hurt someone...bad. No worries, she's now trained and hasn't had an accident that I can remember, but boy, were those the days.

One weekend Kim went out of town so I stayed and watched the pup. No worries, I had it all down. It was gonna be fun, me and Macy, all weekend. Well, little did I know that dogs have an attachment to their owner. Kim left and all was well until she pooped in my room. Are you kidding me? I thought we were over this. Oh, but the fun didn't end there. She proceeded to poop again, in my closet, then chew up my phone charger (the dog was not a chewer, I should have been good!) then she ate and threw up. We all know I can't deal with throw up. Good thing it was parents weekend, my dad was so good and cleaned up the barf. Lastly, she peed inside. I was totally shocked. The dog gets mad because the owner leaves town, and she takes it out on me. Kim laughed, and I was annoyed. I got over it, but whew...it was exhausting.

Well, the Crocker's left Sunday morning, so my job started Sunday afternoon. I decided to make a trip over to the house to check on Lilly after lunch. They hadn't been gone too long, so I thought all would be OK. Low and behold, I open the laundry door and an awful stank flares up my nostrils. WHAT?! Yes, you guessed it, she pooped...TWICE!! Oh, boy, I was a happy sitter. I continued to take Lilly out, maybe she could learn to poop OUTSIDE. Well, she did her business, so I left her outside while I cleaned up the mess. You have to know something about Lilly, she is too funny because she will not go to the bathroom unless you walk outside with her and walk in the grass. Oh, it is a process. I would rather not stand outside in the 100 degree heat. Thank you.

I let her inside and thought I would rest for a while at the house and give her some company, she was clearly having with drawls from her owners leaving. About an hour later I notice that Lilly wasn't laying by me anymore. So, I went lookin'. She was laying sweetly by the door, I know she thought mom and dad would be home any second. But, as I'm petting her, another awful stank arises. NO!!! Oh, but yes, this time she pooped ON THE CARPET in the dining room. I was so happy and she looked at me with the guilty eyes. Guilty as charged. Lilly, you are the ONLY dog here, I KNOW YOU did it.

I cleaned up (gagging as I went along), took her out one more time, then decided I would go home for a bit.

Once again, the owners have left, and the dog takes it out on me. I couldn't be more proud to be a dog sitter. I love when they leave special treats for me.

Thankfully, upon my return that night, she left no treat and did ALL her business outside. She got a treat at bed time.
