About 2 weeks ago we got our assignments for student teaching. I am doing my student teaching in Cy-Fair ISD. Now folks, as much as I love this district (simply because I attended it my whole life!) it is HUGE. We have about 10 high schools, 25 Jr. Highs, and 50 Elementarys! Craziness. Since I am getting certified in Early Childhood, I knew my assignment would be at an elementary school. That is ONE of FIFTY elementary schools. The chances of me getting a school even remotely close to home is slim to none. Sure enough, my placement was at an elementary that has the address of KATY, Texas. A school about 30 minutes from home. And you ask, is this still Cy-Fair ISD? Yes, folks, it is! That's how big it is!
My absolute dream was to get the school that I went to, Matzke Elementary. It is literally a hop, skip and a jump from my house. But, the only way of me getting the school I wanted was to have a principal recommendation. The one problem is I don't know the principal there anymore. She is new to me because she was never my principal. After visiting my neighbor there during Thanksgiving break to bring her lunch, I met the principle, in which my old P.E. teacher introduced me to. She then proceeded to tell her that I would love to do my student teaching there. She got my name and told me she would love to work it out if at all possible.
I really didn't think anything of it because I didn't think Sam Houston would budge. They are pretty organized and strict about these things.
Anyway, after much time and communication (on the principals part, that I didn't know of) I randomly got a phone call from my P.E. teacher telling me I had been switched to Matzke. I was so kooked out and immediately checked my assignment online. (I was sure I had to do more than just meet the principal!) Sure enough, my assignment was changed and I am now student teaching at the elementary school I attended for all 6 years!!! I am just tickled pink!!!!
And, you wanna know the best part?! My first assignment is with MY 2nd grade teacher!!! Y'all, I am student teaching with my old teacher!! How fun is that?!?!!!! She is now teaching 3rd grade, but it still excites me to no end!! How many people can say that they student taught at there old school, or with their old teacher?! I love it.
I am so thankful for many reasons, one of the main ones being I only have to drive about 2 miles to get to school each morning. Praise the Lord. In Jen's words: Jesus loves me, this I know!
(Thank you for listening/reading this long version of my assignment...my heart is just happy so I had extreme word vomit!)

YAY for Matzke Wildcats! Yay for Mrs. Love! You are gonna be the best student teacher they have ever seen!
How exciting! And the whole working with your old teacher thing is amazing! I hope she's a nice teacher :)
Be glad Michael's homeschooled, 'cause he's in third grade and would go to Matzke. Wouldn't that make your job fun! ;) (ok, so there's a bajillion 3rd grade classes and the odds that he would be in that one are pretty slim, but whatever...) I hope my neighbor isn't in that class! ;)
Are you still gonna get to work at MOPS?
Of course I remember you, Lindsee! How funny that you found my blog through Baby Bangs, and funnier still that your dad saw my family so recently! I'm glad to hear that everything is going so well for you and that you'll be student teaching at your old school! Fun!
Uh, Lindseelou, I think you meant to say that you'll only be going about two "blocks" to get to Matzke instead of two "miles!" Woo hoo!
M

Linds, I am just so glad you got your assignment changed. Just because we won't be next door anymore, we're still going to hang out...A LOT! Love you and have fun in Colorado!
that is too awesome. I taught at my old elementary school for 2 years- it was FUN!! My same AP was there and several of my teachers. Kind of weird for them to have me as a co-worker when I was once their student! :) One of them (my 2nd gr. reading teacher) and I became friends- too cool!! Love that you got moved, so happy for yOU!! love ya girl...and we WILL do that lunch when you're back!! :)
YEAH for you Lindsee! That is just awesome! I can't imagine going back to the ole stomping grounds.
Have a blast in Colorado. I'm really jealous of that one. you are gonna have a blast!!
Merry Christmas girl. Be safe.
Love, Fran
Lindsee! Where was your original assignment? I was at Duryea, which has a Katy address. It was a GREAT school! BUT, I'm so happy that everything worked out for you! Student teaching is amazing!-Emily T.
